Following a recent damage assessment of Block/Parcel 60503/17, Mary Jane Lane, Blue Hills, in the aftermath of a fire on Thursday, July 24, 2025, Her Excellency Acting Governor Anya Williams, on the advice of the Acting Director of Disaster Management and Emergencies and in consultation with the National Security Council, on Tuesday July 29, 2025 officially declared the site a Disaster Zone in accordance with section 53(1) of the Disaster Management Act.

The declaration is based on multiple safety concerns including:
- Lack of proper access to water, waste disposal, and electricity
- Presence of significant debris
- Overall unsafe and uninhabitable conditions

This site had previously been the subject of an enforcement notice issued by the Planning Department and the Informal Settlements Unit.
Under the Disaster Management Act, and following this official declaration, the Director and the Commissioner of Police are prohibiting access to the declared Disaster Area:
- Access to the disaster area by members of the public and unauthorized personnel is strictly prohibited;
- Former residents are strictly advised not to enter the area
- No rebuilding, construction, or repairs are to be undertaken within the declared Disaster Area

Authorities will continue to monitor the site and updates will be issued as necessary.
