The Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions hosted a two days Human Trafficking workshop, facilitated by Senior Deputy Director of Public Prosecutions and head of the Human Trafficking Sexual Offences Unit, Mrs. Christine Johnson-Spence and Crown counsel Ms. Morgan Kellier from the Officer of the Director of Public Prosecutions, Jamaica.

During September 8-9, twenty-four key stakeholders from Board Force, Police Officers from the Human Trafficking Unit and Prosecutors from the DPP’s office met at the Police Headquarters where they engaged in critical training, equipping them to combat and address trafficking within the Turks and Caicos Islands. Deputy Director, Dr. Angela Brooks said, “this training was timely and critical, because we are now prosecuting offences of this nature.

Human trafficking is modern slavery and it must be addressed at the highest level of government. In order to accurately detect, investigate and prosecute these types of matters, it is paramount that Officers and Prosecutors received the appropriate training that would enable them to execute their duties to the highest standard.”
