ISU SCHOOLS’ LAUNCH BRINGS YOUTH OUTREACH PROGRAMME TO LIFE

The Informal Settlements Unit’s Youth Outreach Programme came alive on September 17, 2025 in a vibrant showcase of energy, creativity, and youth engagement, as students gathered for the Schools Launch at the Gustarvus Lightbourne Sports Complex.

The event built on the momentum of the Media Launch held earlier this month on the 5th of September which introduced the initiative to leaders, stakeholders, and the press. While the Media Launch focused on outlining the vision and framework of the programme, the Schools’ Launch placed young people at the center—transforming that vision into an experience filled with interaction, learning, and fun. Students and teachers from all-age, primary and secondary schools in Providenciales, Grand Turk, North Caicos, Middle Caicos and South Caicos were in attendance.

From the very start, the event blended serious themes with dynamic elements designed to spark imagination. Students were challenged to think about real issues facing communities in Turks and Caicos through quick-fire activities like the “What Would You Do?” challenge, while lively performances and creative features kept the atmosphere charged and engaging. Confetti, countdowns, and spirited Youth Ambassador voices punctuated the day, ensuring the message was not only heard but felt.

At the heart of the Youth Outreach Programme is an innovative approach to learning. Short, accessible videos—animated for younger students and live-action for older ones—will be shared in classrooms, reinforced through school visits by Youth Ambassadors, and made available online so that all young people, including those outside of the school system, can participate. The content connects directly to the ISU Future Creators Challenge, a series of competitions in art, essays, jingles, and design, encouraging students to apply what they learn by expressing their ideas for safer and stronger communities.

The Schools’ Launch was more than an introduction to the competitions; it was a call to action. Students left not just entertained, but motivated to use their talents, spread the word to peers and communities, and take up the challenge of shaping the future of the Turks and Caicos Islands.
