Traveling This Summer? Stay Healthy and Safe

Summer travel picks up, the Ministry of Health and Human Services reminds everyone in the Turks and Caicos Islands to take simple steps to protect themselves and others from respiratory illnesses like COVID-19 and the flu.

Here’s how you can stay safe:

  • Wash your hands often with soap and water, or use hand sanitizer with at least 65% alcohol.
  • Cover coughs and sneezes with your elbow or a tissue — and throw tissues away immediately.
  • Wear a mask if you’re feeling unwell or in crowded indoor spaces.
  • Keep your distance in enclosed or poorly ventilated areas.
  • Clean surfaces you touch often, like phones and door handles.
  • Get vaccinated against COVID-19 and the flu — it’s one of the most effective ways to reduce severe illness and protect vulnerable groups

Feeling unwell?

Stay home and avoid contact with others. If you’re at higher risk — such as being older, pregnant, or having a chronic condition — seek medical care early. You can return to normal activities once your symptoms improve and you’ve been fever-free for 24 hours without medication.

Seek Medical Attention Immediately If You Experience:

  • Difficulty breathing
  • Chest pain or pressure
  • Persistent high fever
  • Confusion or trouble waking up
  • Signs of dehydration (e.g., dizziness, dry mouth, reduced urination)
  • Worsening symptoms, especially if you’re in a high-risk group

Let’s protect each other. Whether you’re traveling by land, sea, or air — your actions matter.

Travel smart. Stay safe. Keep TCI healthy.
